Emergency Health Services Act as it pertains to Professional Medical Responders in BC.
As a Professional Medical Responder licensed through EMALB in the Province of British Columbia, you are subject to all the local rules and legislation, including the Emergency Health Services Act.
The Emergency Health Services Act generally governs the conduct and scope of practice you are bound to as an Emergency Medical Responder or First Responder.
Sections 7 and 9 of the Emergency Health Services Act are specifically relevant for you, as they pertain to Disciplinary Actions and the Appeal process should you receive a formal complaint regarding an alleged breach of the rules.
In October of 2016, the BC Minister of Health issued Ministerial Order M397, which repealed the section of the Emergency Health Services Act that governed and limited the use and administration of Naloxone. With the enactment of that order, Naloxone can be administered at any time, by anyone in a position to help a patient experiencing suspected Opioid Overdose.
