Glasgow Coma Scale Self-Test
Glasgow Coma Scale Self-Test for First Responders and Emergency Medical Responders in BC. As a First Responder or Emergency Medical Responder preparing for BC EMALB Licensing evaluations, one of the foundational Vital Sign assessment skills you must become comfortable with is the Glasgow Coma Scale, also known as GCS, to determine Level of Responsiveness (LOR) or Level Consciousness (LOC).
Practicing Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) assessment for Level of Responsiveness (LOR) in a hands-on scenario is important, but you need to make sure you are repeatedly evaluating the correct response scores according to the patient's reactions. Practice only makes perfect if practiced perfectly.
Completing the Glasgow Coma Scale self-test is a quick and easy way to consistently reinforce all the steps and mnemonics, including full SMR and simple SMR distinctions. Having the Glasgow Coma Scale reflexively memorized leaves you with more time to think about how to apply those decisions during a scenario, evaluations and actual patient care.
You can download and fill out the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) self-test as many times as you need to feel completely familiar with the steps. If you are preparing for Emergency Medical Responder training/examinations, the "Answer Key" for this self-test can be found in the Emergency Medical Responder Cheat Sheet. If you are preparing for First Responder training/examinations, the "Answer Key" for this self-test can be found in the First Responder Cheat Sheet.
