Stroke Assessment Self-Test
FAST-VAN Stroke Assessment tool self-test for Emergency Medical Responders and First Responders in BC.
As an Emergency Medical Responder or First Responder preparing for BC EMALB Licensing evaluations, one of the skills you must become comfortable with is the assessment of Stroke and Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA). Practicing the assessment of Stroke and TIA in a hands-on scenario is important, but you need to make sure you are repeatedly performing the correct steps in the correct sequence, when the indications and contraindications make it appropriate. Practice only makes perfect if practiced perfectly.
Completing the FAST-VAN Stroke Assessement Tool self-test is a quick and easy way to consistently reinforce the signs, symptoms, steps and mnemonics involved. Having the FAST-VAN Stroke Assessment Tool reflexively memorized leaves you with more time to think about how to apply those decisions during a scenario, evaluations and actual patient care.
You can download and fill out the Stroke Assessment Tool self-test as many times as you need to feel completely familiar with the steps.
