Basic First Aid Courses
Compare our Canadian Red Cross Basic First Aid programs and CPR-AED certification courses in Kelowna, BC. First Aid certification makes you safer at home, more employable as a Worker, and protects you as an Employer.

First Aid Levels
Emergency First Aid (EFA) is 8 hours and meets WorkSafe BC's Level 1 Workplace First Aid certification requirements. If you hold a current and valid Emergency First Aid certificate, you are eligible to take the shortened (6 hour) Emergency First Aid Recertification course. Standard First Aid (SFA) is 14 hours and meets WorkSafe BC's Level 1 Workplace First Aid and Alberta WCB's certification requirements. Standard First Aid also includes all legislative requirements for Child Care Facility First Aid providers. If you hold a current and valid Standard First Aid certificate, you are eligible to take the shortened (8 hour) Standard First Aid Recertification course. Your Canadian Red Cross First Aid course will include CPR-AED level C (CPR C), which is also available as a standalone certification course.

Stand-Alone CPR
In addition to being included with all First Aid training, CPR-AED certification is also available in stand-alone courses. Your Canadian Red Cross CPR course will include Automated External Defibrillation (AED). The CPR certification chart below illustrates the differences between Canadian Red Cross CPR level A, CPR level C, and Basic Life Support (BLS).

CPR Levels
CPR level C includes the skills to perform CPR & AED on Adults, Children and Babies, while CPR level A includes the skills to perform CPR & AED on Adults only. Basic Life Support (BLS) was previously referred to as CPR HCP, and includes the skills to perform CPR & AED on Adults, Children, Infants, and Neonates, as well as additional skills such as pulse checks and Bag-Valve-Mask, for Health Care Professionals. The Oxygen Therapy (O2) component includes the use of Oxygen equipment, OPAs and BVMs. BLS was formerly referred to as CPR level HCP prior to October 2018.

The basic First Aid program chart below compares classroom times and course content for Canadian Red Cross standalone CPR courses, Standard First Aid courses, Emergency First Aid courses, and WorkSafe BC's Level 1 Occupational First Aid courses.
