Rationale for Changes
Canadian Red Cross Professional Responder Programs
Canadian Red Cross Rationale of Content Changes to Professional Responder Program.
In October of 2018, the Canadian Red Cross launched their updated Professional Responder programs, including Basic Life Support (BLS) courses, First Responder (FR) courses, and Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) courses. These updated Professional Responder programs included several significant changes to the BLS, First Responder and EMR skills & principles being taught in Canadian Red Cross courses.
Some of the updates included changes to existing First Responder and EMR skills and principles, some Professional Responder skills and principles were removed entirely, while some of the changes included the addition of entirely new ideas, principles and Professional Responder skills. The Professional Responder course student manuals, support materials, and Instructor guides were also updated in accordance with the new guidelines.
The EMR and First Responder skills and principles adopted by the Canadian Red Cross follow the guidelines from the most currently recognized International Liaison Committee on Rescuscitation (ILCOR) and Canadian Consensus on Science and Treatment Recommendations (CoSTR) recommendations.
To assist Canadian Red Cross First Responder and EMR Instructors in familiarizing themselves with these updated skills and principles, so they can deliver the Professional Responder program courses in a credible and consistent manner, the Canadian Red Cross published a notification titled "Rationale of Content Changes to Professional Responder Program."
